A 189-dollar check for Lee Harvey Oswald and a 189-dollar check for one of JFK's Secret Service agents: November 1963, Dallas/Fort Worth!

I was continuing to read the new and outstanding book THE JFK ASSASSINATION CHOKEHOLDS THAT PROVE THERE WAS A CONSPIRACY by Jim DiEugenio, Paul Bleau, Matt Crumpton, Andrew Iler, and Mark Adamcyzk and I came across a very interesting entry concerning Lee Harvey Oswald, Leonard Hutchison and a 189-dollar check that Oswald---or a double---attempted to cash which is a whopping 1,896 in 2023 dollars, a huge amount for the broke Oswald (Page 152; for the Warren Commission reference: 10 H 335)

Warren Commission, Volume X: Leonard Edwin Hutchison (history-matters.com)

189 dollars? Hmmm. I knew I had heard of this unique check amount before with regard to events connected in some way to Oswald and the assassination.

And I had, indeed (18 H 672-673): JFK Secret Service agent Andy Berger ALSO tried to cash a 189-dollar check in the Dallas/Fort Worth area like Oswald in November 1963! This is also a huge amount for the mostly broke Secret Service agents (read Gerald Blaine's whining about their low pay in The Kennedy Detail)

Secret Service agent Andy Berger was one of the agents who caroused at both the Fort Worth Press Club (drinking alcohol against regulations) and The Cellar into the early morning hours of 11/22/63 (18 H 683):

History Matters Archive - Warren Commission Hearings, Volume XVIII, pg (history-matters.com)

Berger would later drive JFK's body in the hearse out of Parkland Hospital and on to Love Field and Air Force One. Berger was also part of the shift that involved working with fellow agent Richard Johnsen, the keeper of CE399 (18 H 680):

History Matters Archive - Warren Commission Hearings, Volume XVIII, pg (history-matters.com)

As I discovered years ago, Berger was also the agent who reported the presence of a CIA AGENT at Parkland Hospital, as well as the presence of FBI agent Vince Drain, "a doctor friend of his", and an unidentified FBI agent who had to be restrained by Berger from entering the emergency room (18 H 795-796)! The unidentified FBI agent turned out to be J. Doyle Williams (JFK: From Parkland To Bethesda, page 87)

Doyle Williams was also the man who portrayed Connally in the Arlen Specter/follow-up car (limousine) re-enactments, wearing Connally's actual jacket]

From another forum today [5/29/17]:

"James Suggs--- The oddest thing I'm from Ft. Worth, Recently I was talking about JFK with an old friend I trust. He said his friend had told him that his uncle, Doyle Williams, who had been an FBI agent back then, had made sort of a deathbed confession that he had been the one that had placed the bullet found on the gurney at Parkland Hospital. Can Mr. Williams being an agent then, here(?), his whereabouts on 11/22/63 and whatever else be confirmed perchance."

J. Doyle Williams was also the FBI "stand-in" for John Connally during the May 23 - 24, 1964 Warren Commission reconstruction in Dallas.

EXCELLENT security for JFK in Tampa, FL on 11/18/63

"It was 4 days before JFK would be assassinated at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, the date was Nov. 18th. 1963 when President John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s plane would touch down at Mac Dill Air Force Base. He and General Paul D. Adams would sit in the very same Lincoln that he and his wife Jackie would be in on that fateful day in Dallas. The motorcades in Texas needed Jackie. For you see they made an amazingly photogenic couple and the campaign needed the Texas voter. The Tampa motorcade route would begin after a speech at Al Lopez Field. It went south on Dale Mabry then turned east and ran 5 miles up Grand Central Avenue to Franklin Street. Winded it’s way around to Howard Avenue and stopped at the Fort Homer Hesterley Armory where he would deliver another speech. Then back to Grand Central Avenue and west to the International Inn (now the InterContinental). After another 20 minute speech back to Grand Central Avenue and then return to MacDill. In JFK’s entire presidency this would be his second longest motorcade route, eclipsed only by his famous Berlin, Germany trip. On this entire route JFK was guarded front, back and all sides by the Tampa Police Department Motor Officers, 34 motor units in all on that sunny day in November. I recently talked with retired TPD motor officer Russell Groover (who with officer Ronald Barber) were chosen to be the two motor units closest to JFK. The FBI and Tampa Police started recieving threats against the President two weeks before his landing. Two days before the President’s arrival when asked by the Secret Service “If anyone breaks through this perimeter you are to take them out. How would you do this?” Without thinking, officer Groover said “I’d hit them with my motorcycle”. With hands needed to operate the motor unit and the possibility of a stray bullet into the crowd, it was the correct answer. Officer Barber agreed and they had their two “lead” men to the left and right of our 35th President. Officer Groover drew a detailed diagram of the TPD motor unit deployment. It was a very closely spaced diamond of 7 units around JFK’s car and the remaining 23 boxing in that formation. He also commented that in every multi story building along the motorcade there were police or military stationed on every floor and the roof. At Mac Dill, president Kennedy thanked every officer personally and with a handshake, for Tampa did its job well and JFK boarded Air Force One without incident.

The motor units are of immense value in a motorcade due to narrow road lanes and crowded conditions. They can pass, drop back and are a great tool to “push” back an overzealous crowd from the Presidential cars in such limited space.

Harrison Edward Livingstone- he was a friend of mine

Capture

Harrison "Harry" Edward Livingstone, who passed away in February 2015 (just found out tonight), was an eccentric, prolific, talented, paranoid and tireless author of many books, including quite a few on the JFK assassination:

1) HIGH TREASON with Robert Groden (1989)- for all intents and purposes (other than John Davis' "Mafia Kingfish"), THE book that started my obsession on the JFK murder and the Secret Service. Warts and all (yes, it is a little dated now in places), this two-time NY Times best-seller is a seminal book on the case (I am mentioned in the 1998 and 2006 versions of this book)...

I mailed Livingstone a letter (actually, it was primarily meant for his co-author Groden at Conservatory Press, but Livingstone intercepted it and replied) in February 1991and he promptly wrote back and included this memorable line: "Unless you have something original to offer, don't bother. You'll just run yourself into the ground." Wise and cutting words, indeed, and inspiring, as well- I scrapped my original secondary-source laden manuscript FOR NATIONAL SECURITY and started to focus like a laser beam on the actions and inactions of the Secret Service, inspired in part by the modest chapter in Harry's book (thanks, Harry). I subsequently met Harry in person at the Third Decade conference in Fredonia, NY in June 1991-my coming out party, so to speak, as a researcher-and I began to work on primary research and helping Harry when I could, including a memorable two-day jaunt (11/22-11/23/91) to a nearby Pittsburgh suburb to film Bethesda x-ray tech Jerrol Custer (and Tom Wilson) for what would become Harry's second book (Harry thanked me in the book [the very first book I ever appeared in]):

2) HIGH TREASON 2 (1992)- another NY Times best-seller, thanks in large part to the hooplah over the Oliver Stone film (to which Harry had a chapter and was an ardent critic) "JFK". In my opinion, this is Harry's crowning achievement; excellent stuff on the medical evidence, in particular...then things got "harry" (pardon the pun)- I helped Harry once again in 1992 (going to Ohio to interview Steve Barber) for what would turn out to be his most controversial work:

3) KILLING THE TRUTH (1993)- this book, while having some important information in spots, greatly alienated the critical community towards Harry (and vice versa) due in large part to Harry's criticism of several sacred cows in the community (I am mentioned in this one, as well);

4) KILLING KENNEDY (1995)- NOT to be confused with the later Bill O'Reilly junk with the same title, this was a somewhat mixed bag of a book (I am mentioned in this one, too);

5) THE RADICAL RIGHT AND THE MURDER OF JOHN F. KENNEDY (2006)- Harry's best book (and last good one) since HIGHT TREASON 2 (yes, I am mentioned in this one). A good synthesis of what was good about his prior works, along with a few new items and surprises;

AND THE REST-

6) THE HOAX OF THE CENTURY (2004)- Z-FILM-IS-ALTERED 'stuff';

7) PANJANDRUM (2013)- JFK X-RAY faulty expose

8) KALEIDOSCOPE (2012)- a too critical attack on Doug Horne

CONTRIBUTED TO-

9) TEXAS IN THE MORNING by Madelaine Brown

10) FROM AN OFFICE BUILDING WITH A HIGH-POWERED RIFLE by Don Adams

Not to mention many other non-JFK novels and books of interest.

Harry inspired me greatly and started my path into PRIMARY, ORIGINAL research and thinking AND being my own person in the community, even if that meant being a "loner" at times within it.

I will remember the good times and miss him. Not everyone will, for he alienated some (a lot?)...but I will always be grateful.

Thanks, Harry. RIP. I hope you get to talk to JFK now- you idolized him so.

Kennedy assassination is author’s life’s work

John Kennedys murder is a major part of my lifes work, says… (VERN FISHER/Associated Press)

His life has been a long, strange ride, and an unpleasant one at times — a price that has been paid by serious writers throughout history.

Harrison Livingstone, 75, who ranks among the world’s most prolific investigative authors on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, has been a serious writer for most of his life. An early work, “David Johnson Passed Through Here,” was hailed as a ground-breaking novel about child abuse. Like many of his published books — more than two dozen now — “David Johnson” is at least partially autobiographical. Livingstone described his mother in print as a “violent and hysterical” woman with whom he “never had a two-way conversation.”

“Terrible things happened when I was a kid,” he said, “but a part of you rises above it.”

His first name is an homage to a branch of his family tree that sprang from William Henry Harrison, the ninth president of the United States.

Livingstone’s aunt married a billionaire who co-founded the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. He said he was written out of the will when he opted to live as a writer, rather than commit to the family business.

His father was a World War I hero with the Army’s Rainbow Division, hauling soldiers, alive and dead, off the battlefield at the river Marne.

“I was very proud of my father, even if he died (in 1985) thinking I was a failure,” Livingstone said. “I vowed not to fail, no matter what, and I became an obsessed

workaholic for the next 24 years.”

His stepfather was a supervisor in charge of the two FBI agents who observed the autopsy of Kennedy.

Livingstone seized on the opportunities stemming from that connection. He has written 3,400 pages about the assassination of Kennedy and what he is certain is a conspiracy to hide the facts about what really happened in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.

The truth, said Livingstone, is that four men (none of them Lee Harvey Oswald) fired 13 shots at Kennedy, and some of the fatal bullets struck the president in the front of the head and neck — not the just the back, as the Warren Commission Report said.

Livingstone said Kennedy’s murder was orchestrated in part by FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, partly for the benefit of wealthy Texas oilmen and others who were heavily invested in the war industry and stood to lose billions if the U.S. withdrew from Vietnam. Vice President Lyndon Johnson, a friend to those barons, was a heartbeat away from solving their problem.

Consumed by Kennedy

Livingstone has written 25 published books, as well as plays, movie scripts, novels and poetry. But Kennedy’s assassination has consumed most of his adult life.

His obsession with the case has spilled into six published volumes (all available at the Monterey Public Library), three of which made the New York Times bestseller list. “High Treason: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy; What Really Happened” and its sequel sold more copies than any other JFK conspiracy books in history.

His 2004 book, “The Hoax of the Century: Decoding the Forgery of the Zapruder Film,” lays out evidence that the home movie of the assassination was drastically doctored before it was shown to the press and public.

Livingstone believes his findings are being validated today by FBI and Secret Service agents who were on duty in Dallas when Kennedy was killed — men now going public with their information.

One of those agents, Clint Hill, famously leaped onto the back of the limousine to protect first lady Jackie Kennedy. Livingstone said Hill’s April 6 NBC interview promoting his own memoir, “Mrs. Kennedy and Me,” corroborated his findings, providing renewed hope that the truth about the president’s murder, and its cover-up, will finally come to light.

For Livingstone, it’s none too soon. He has stage 4 cancer and said doctors are unable to give him a definitive prognosis about his longevity

HARRY LIVINGSTONE RIP- more information on his last years/days and passing

Capture

Pamela Brown wrote on Facebook-

Today I got an email from Bob Oliver, a radio talk show host I did an interview with in 2010
Pamela,

I learned yesterday that Harry died sometime in February here in Monterey. He had a large group of followers and did a tremendous good for all of us. I hope you can spread the news wide. I have notified the media locally and was told that the news was not known by the media sources yet.

...

I thought you might reach Judith for me. I did meet her briefly in San Francisco several years ago at a conference she spoke at.

In January of 2014 I helped Harry move. He was ill then and he was difficult. By June he was placed in a facility. He died in February. I'm helping to locate people that need to know, and get some recognition for his works. From our conversations, I know how instrumental he was in yours and my lives. You may want to write again.

Harrison Edward Livingstone, local Monterey author passed away in a convalescent home in February this year. He was under conservatorship monitored by Carl Powers Monterey County Public Guardian Office. Harry was in contact with Mary Duan prior to his medical disability.
There was no mention in either the Herald or Coast Weekly. So far I find no mention on the internet. I only learned of his passing today from Carl Powers.

Harry wrote many historical accounts in his Kennedy Assassination books and over the past ten years was concentrating on what he felt were his more creative years of writing. Some of his writing is about local accounts here and in Big Sur. Harry was a best selling and notable author for his book High Treason and series of Kennedy assassination books with leading investigative finding including the Zapruder film hoax and alterations of the Kennedy autopsy photos. He would however, have like to have been remembered for his more recent books and his love of writing. Those who knew him can easily remember him saying as he would finish one of his books "That book almost killed me".

First things first: it is important to remember that President Kennedy did not have hundreds of motorcades during his 1000 or so days in office- it was a finite number (from the JFK Library):

When the President visited military bases or traveled in motorcades in Washington, D.C., there was hardly any overt protection noticeable, such as motorcycles flanking the car, agents on or near the rear of the limousine, or a full bubbletop, unless during certain weather conditions, with a few notable exceptions when a display of force was demonstrated. This was because the Secret Service and the President were on very friendly, well-traveled grounds. On military bases, our troops, in conjunction with the Secret Service, provide the best-case scenario for protection. In the Capital, the Secret Service checks all the buildings along the route, and armed guards are posted along the path the President’s car will take. In addition, manholes are checked and sealed. For example, during JFK’s Inaugural Parade held on 1/20/61, “A complete survey of all buildings, water mains, sewers and underground conduits and other facilities along the parade route [was] made prior to the departure of the President from the White House to the Capitol.”

It should also be noted that when JFK was a candidate for the Presidency in 1960 the Secret Service did not protect candidates. Sadly, this did not become policy until immediately after the murder of his brother Robert. For his part, V.P. Nixon already had Secret Service protection on the campaign trail in 1960. That said, Senator Kennedy’s motorcades were often surrounded by many motorcycles and press photographers:

From my third book The Not-So-Secret Service: Death threats preceded JFK’s 1963 Ireland visit: “Police, newspaper received warnings months before president’s killing. “The documents indicated that 6,404 police officers were on duty throughout Ireland the night Kennedy arrived, of whom 2,690 lined the U.S. president’s route from Dublin airport to the Phoenix Park mansion of Irish President Eamon de Valera. “Costigan wrote that, although the death threats were considered likely to be hoaxes, his officers would use binoculars to monitor rooftops along the route of the presidential motorcade. He said some police would carry firearms, an exceptional measure in a country with a largely unarmed police force, to engage any would-be sniper. “A rifle as well as Thompson guns and revolvers were carried for use against a possible sniper,” Costigan wrote in a post-Kennedy visit memorandum released Friday

HOWEVER- regarding the same Duluth, MN trip: Researcher Chad Carlson wrote to me regarding this very same trip: “I am friends with a man here who was in charge of JFK’s trip to Duluth, MN here in September of 1963. I ask him a lot about JFK. He got to talk oneon-one with the President for 30 minutes before he made his rounds and speeches. His name is Larry Yetka, former Minnesota Supreme Court justice. Larry said that he wondered what [Mafia boss] Sam Giancana of Chicago was up to on 11-22-63. I told him that I had been watching the motorcade in Dallas on 11-22-63 and told him it looked very “lax.” He said, “Yes it was.” So I asked him how was security in Duluth in Sept.1963? He said, “Tight as hell-men were on the rooftops even.” See also (from renowned JFK historian Mark Henderson):

Billings, MT September 1963:

Building rooftops were guarded---This was confirmed by researcher Deb Galentine’s assistant police chief father who worked on the security for this trip, as conveyed to the author on 2/17/14. Deb further wrote: “Weeks before JFK’s arrival, my father, who would be in charge of the local police protection, met with Billings’ leaders and some of President Kennedy’s advance people. JFK’s planners wanted the fastest, safest routes possible. They desired routes with no tall buildings and hoped to avoid Billings’ Rimrocks as well. The Rimrocks, a natural sandstone formation riddled with caves, paths, and ledges and dotted with pine trees and shrubs, unevenly jut about 500 feet above the city of Billings. Avoiding them would be impossible since Billings’ airport lies perched atop them. Three separate routes were available from the airport to the President’s venue, and the planners decided to use the one that provided the safest and fastest passage away from the Rimrocks.”

Helicopters searched the roofs along the way, and no incidents occurred.” [A Million Miles of Presidents, p. 204] Agent Don Lawton rode on the rear of the limousine and six motorcycles bracketed the vehicle:

Nashville, TN 5/18/63---SAIC of the Nashville office (and former JFK WHD agent) Paul Doster told the Nashville Banner on 5/18/63 that “a complete check of the entire motorcade route” was done for JFK’s trip to Nashville. In addition, Doster stated, “Other [police] officers were assigned atop the municipal terminal and other buildings along the route. These men took their posts at 8 a.m. and remained at their rooftop stations until the president and his party passed.” A helicopter was used on the route, as well:

From my third book The Not-So-Secret Service: Bob Hoelscher worked for the Miami-Dade Police Department for 50 years and was a counter-sniper and observer on the terrace deck of the airport hotel on November 18, 1963, the day Kennedy arrived in Miami. He guarded almost every VIP that came through Dade County from Kennedy to Clinton and started the tactical special weapons team, later known as SWAT, in 1970. Documents reveal a bomb threat against JFK in Miami just days before his death. Hoelscher told CBSMiami.com that he knew of potential threats to the president ahead of his November visit. “I was told that information had been developed that the Cubans might start a protest at an unknown location and they might make an attempt on the life of the President if there was sufficient distraction,” Hoelscher said. “I was told to keep this information to myself, watch the periphery and look for anything unusual.” While Hoelscher and some others in the police department knew, it was strictly on a “need to know” basis. “The information about the death threat was not shared with the rank and file out of fear that the media would find out,” Hoelscher said

Congressman Sam Gibbons, WHO RODE A FOOT AWAY FROM KENNEDY IN THE BACK OF THE LIMOUSINE, debunks the whole JFK-ordered-the-agents-off-the-limo garbage: "I rode with Kennedy every time he rode. I heard no such order. As I remember it the agents rode on the rear bumper all the way. Kennedy was very happy during his visit to Tampa. Sam Gibbons."

Other arrows- police lining street, good motorcycle formation, agent Don Lawton looks upward to scan buildings, Shift Leader Roberts BETWEEN Bennett and the driver, Kinney. Roofs of multi-story buildings guarded, helicopter used along route, FORTY (40) members of military intelligence unit guarded route

Fort Worth, TX 11/22/63 (BEFORE the assassination):

--text: FORT WORTH PRESS 11/22/63 morning edition: Fort Worth advance agent Bill Duncan...but look at the headline below: "16 GOOFS ARE CHECKED OUT BY SECRET SERVICE GUARDING JFK" (image via Ebay- it's already gone, so luckily I saved it)

"A Secret Service man said today 16 persons were "checked out" here last night by agents guarding President Kennedy's life.

"The public doesn't know it," the agent said, "but we checked out 16 goofs." The agent described them as "goofs." "But if they could have gotten close enough they could have harmed the President."

The agent, who asked not to be quoted by name, declined to elaborate. He would not say whether any of the persons investigated were carrying arms.

Police officers said they know a no persons arrested and jailed last night by SS men.

THE SECRET Service men protected President Kennedy and his wife and Vice President Lyndon Johnson during their reception at Carswell Air Force Base and during their overnight stay at Hotel Texas.

Police officers, sheriff's deputies and federal men roped off Eighth St outside Hotel Texas as the President arrived.

"Everything went smoothly," Police St. S. B. Pruitt, one of dozens of city officers who spent the night at the hotel, said. "We didn't have any trouble at all."

REPORTERS were not allowed in the corridor of the eighth floor where the President and Mrs. Kennedy slept.

SS men and police kept the halls cleared of everybody except those wearing "special badges."

Policemen were stationed on the seventh and ninth floor stairs to keep anybody from going to the floor with the President.

One SS man was stationed outside Vice President and Mrs. Johnson's 13th floor suite.

City firemen stood in the halls on the seventh, eighth and ninth floors and in the hotel kitchens. It was the first time that many of the firemen could remember that such a precaution had been made to protect visiting dignitaries.

"But we don't have the President visit us very often," one fireman said."
