ERRATA and corroboration:

RANDY OWEN: "Finished book #446 in my JFK assassination collection: "Survivor's Guilt: The Secret Service and the Failure to Protect President Kennedy" by Vincent Michael Palamara. He really takes the Secret Service to task. Lavishly footnoted (although Chapter 14 is missing one footnote and Chapter 12 footnotes are misnumbered[NOTE: FOOTNOTES CORRECTED IN SECOND EDITION-VMP]) by his own research and interviews, it brings to bear who do you believe when even the same witnesses say different things at different times. Hopefully, there will be two corrections in future editions.

 

1) Palamara says the presidential limo "was used in all the Texas stops except for Fort Worth." (p.92, ft.8) Actually, it was only used in San Antonio, the first stop, and in Dallas. A different vehicle was used in Fort Worth, but also in Houston. [ A VERY MINOR ERROR BUT I KNEW BETTER ALL ALONG :o) VMP]

 

2) He writes (p.142), "President Kennedy's limousine had the number '7' taped to its outside windshield, on the lower left corner, yet it was in the fifth position, only the fourth vehicle in the motorcade." Actually, it was a sticker in the lower right corner, on the passenger side. It had nothing to do with the position of the limo in the motorcade. I've seen that sticker on the windshield in photos of the limo in places other than Texas. Palamara even posted a photo of the limo on Facebook, not in Texas, and the sticker can be made out. In 2002, I sent an email to Secret Service asking about the sticker. Paul D. Irving, Assistant Director, Office of Government Liaison replied, "The '7' was a motor vehicle inspection sticker indicating that the car was to be inspected in July." While the #7 sticker cannot be used to indicate where in the motorcade the limo was supposed to be, it does not necessarily mean that changes to the lineup were not made at the last minute." [CORRECT: I QUOTED FROM NEWCOMB AND ADAMS+ LIVINGSTONE ON THIS; DULY NOTED. AS RANDY CORRECTLY STATES, "it does not necessarily mean that changes to the lineup were not made at the last minute". Photo page 439: the JFK Library itself labeled this photo as being from 6/5/63 El Paso, TX (as duly noted from some other online websites). That said, as the book went to press and was literally hitting the bookstores, I started to suspect that this photo was actually from the next day in San Diego, CA. Still, from very grainy film footage from El Paso, the military did line the streets and face the crowd so, in the long run, not a big deal. Still, in the interest of accuracy, I felt the need to make mention of this possible mix up.

Page 124: While still an overwhelming landslide for Behn and Boring making trips in place of Kellerman (thus the point has been proven), it appears that Kellerman did man the 5/18/63 Nashville, TN trip on his own (although Behn appeared to have made the trip, at least to a point, judging by flight travel records via Godfrey McHugh and Ted Clifton, although now it seems those records merely indicated Behn traveled with JFK from the White House to Andrews Air Force Base). That said, Nashville was properly protected: fast speed of limo, BUILDINGS/ ROOFTOPS GUARDED, helicopter used, thousands of plain clothes detectives/ police in the crowd, etc., unlike Dallas
