I paid a crazy amount of money for this 11/18/63 Tampa, FL motorcade photo from the JFK Library back in 1995 (poor-quality copies exist online now). Official Cecil Stoughton White House photo. I wrote to Stoughton (now deceased) twice, wondering why he was not riding in the follow-up car, as he usually did, on 11/22/63. He never answered that question.
Agent Don Lawton, who rode on/ near the rear of JFK's limo, right beside the president, in both March 1963 (Chicago) and Tampa (11/18/63, left), recalled by Roberts at Love Field 11/22/63. Lawton told a colleague [as revealed in my new book[ that he "should have been there" on 11/22/63 and lived with much regret. He told me in 1995 "you always have regret, remorse- who knows: if they had left guys on the car..." His voice trailed off. Nothing about JFK "ordering" them off, a myth that has been totally debunked by my work.
Emory Roberts with radio microphone 11/22/63.
