THE KENNEDY DETAIL-BEWARE:

“The Kennedy Detail” repeats constantly an alleged Kennedy quote about "Ivy League charlatans" that the author tries to convince (brainwash?) the reader into taking what was simply an off-hand quote/joke by JFK and turn it into a proclamation of strict procedure protocol-an astute comment from a reader

Eloquent comment about Dan Emmett's awesome new book from a reader

Katherine Thomas Smith says:
As the spouse of a veteran agent (deceased) I must agree with Ms. Roberts review. When the book arrived I thought I would read a chapter or two and be on my way. I looked up 6 hours later and was finished. Author Emmett's portrayal was raw, intense, "real", never dull, up close and sometimes 'in your face'. My hope is to see a follow up collaboration between Dan Emmett and his spouse, also a US Secret Service Agent. I left a promising career to become a 'stay-at-home' Mom and wife, supporting 'my agent's' career. (And was perfectly happy doing so.) I can't imagine the daily stress of a couple 'serving and protecting', while raising a family, traveling on a moment's notice, etc.... And when I say a "moment's notice", take it literally, because it's often just that. An agent serves at the whim of the Protectee and the needs of the Agency. If "a body" is needed it's their sworn obligation and duty to be wherever and whenever necessary. Irregardless if it's their kid's First Communion, 1st birthday, Christmas, etc... I will say the agency does everything possible to get an agent back home in the event of a family death, i.e. the death of a parent, child, sibling, and maybe (if possible, a grandparent). Anyone else, forget it. When my mother died unexpectedly, my spouse was in Nigeria. Gratefully, the Secret Service had him back home 18 hours, however his dress shoes remained in a Nigerian closet.

What the average person generally overlooks is the significance of "The BLING factor". By this I refer to the wardrobe of an agent (or any non uniform wearing LEO). After putting on the usual attire, then the weapon, extra clip, cuffs, etc... the most important accessory will be clipped on, worn on a lanyard around the neck, or put in a pocket: the "Shield". EVERY time they exit their home a life is at risk because they have sworn to "serve and protect", to be "WORTHY OF TRUST AND CONFIDENCE", an oath never taken lightly. I have lived with one who raised the bar and am privileged to call many 'friend'.

Dan Emmett's book has raised another bar. I truly hope to see a follow up. It's as close to the truth as I have read. At times I felt like I was reading "our life story"..... I cried, laughed, felt anger beyond reason, empathized, but, in the end, was exhilirated because the truth was revealed. A must read.
